Vision and Mission

Our Vision

For every child and youth in Cambodia to have their rights equally respected and their basic needs met.

Our Mission

To provide protective services for children & youth, including those with disabilities, to mitigate the risk of harm or abuse.

Our Approach

Prevention

Our mission is to ensure that every child has their rights respected and their basic needs met. However, children are completely dependent on their parents who unfortunately sometimes lack the resources or education to care for their children properly. Our work in prevention focuses on providing capacity building, education, vocational training, and immediate emergency relief for parents to mitigate the risk of violence, harm, or abuse.

Protection

Unfortunately, preventing children from experiencing violence is not always possible. Therefore, it is extremely important to have effective methods of intervention in place to protect children who are in at-risk or unsafe situations. Through daily outreach missions and long-standing collaboration with various child protection networks, we are able to identify these children and provide immediate intervention and long-term case management to ensure their safety.

Rehabilitation

For children who have experienced violence or trauma, we work to provide rehabilitative services to help them recover from these experiences. Untreated trauma can result in a higher risk for substance abuse, exploitation, and lower levels of education: all of which contribute to the perpetuation of violence and poverty. Our rehabilitation efforts provide safe shelter, education, counselling, psycho-social support, life skill training, and creative outlets to manage trauma.

Reintegration

The ultimate goal for children who have experienced violence or trauma is for them to recover and reintegrate into society with the capacity to live a fruitful and productive life. We believe that the best upbringing for children is in a loving, supportive family environment. Therefore, our social workers continue to assess viable options for family or kinship reunification for children living in our alternative care facilities.  When these are discovered, social workers conduct home visits and work with children and families to provide support during the reunification process.

In situations where direct familial or kinship reunification is not possible, children receive a family-like environment through our alternative care programs. Damnok Toek provides educational, medical, and financial support until they either complete their education or secure stable and sustainable employment.
