At Damnok Toek, it is a yearly tradition to celebrate Children’s Day. We use the occasion to emphasize the rights of children and their vulnerability, as well as the importance of education and safe childhood.
On June 1, 2023, the Neak Loeung team hosted a Children’s Day event for more than 400 people. The theme of the event was “Against Child Labour”, which the National Council for Children had chosen for this year’s Children’s Day. The theme aimed to create a public awareness campaign to stop child labor, targeting both children and stakeholders. The Children’s Day event in Neak Loeung was attended by the District Governor, as well as local authorities from the district, commune, and village levels, and the local police. In addition, some parents joined as well as 323 children.
Children’s Day Festivities Begin
The program started with opening speeches given by Damnok Toek’s Branch Director, Mr Tea Ea, and the District Governor, followed by a speech given by children. Afterward, children with exceptional performance in Damnok Toek’s Non-Formal Education program were rewarded with gifts.
After the formal part of the event concluded, a social program followed with picture-taking, child rights games, dancing, and a meal for everyone. The children enjoyed the celebration and happily participated in the social activities.
Continued Support for Child Rights
The local authorities expressed their gratitude to Damnok Toek, not only for hosting the Children’s Day event but also for helping poor children and families in Neak Loeung for many years. Furthermore, the local authorities requested Damnok Toek’s continued collaboration to assist children and families in need, and for Damnok Toek to maintain its promotion of child rights and the fight against child labor.
The Damnok Toek team in Neak Loeung felt the event was successful, as all invited guests came to join, and everyone engaged in the program. The Neak Loeung team will continue to create awareness on the theme “Against Child Labor”, and ensure children attend classes regularly, instead of getting involved in child labor.
